New York Improves Technology Like Other States to Register People to Vote

New Yorkers with a driver’s license or non-driver ID can now register online to vote or change their party affiliation at the state Department of Motor Vehicle’s MyDMV website.

While there is room for improvement, the initiative is a welcome step toward boosting voter participation in New York, which ranks 47th nationwide, with just 64 percent of its eligible voters registered…

Meanwhile, Cuomo says the new program will save the state DMV, which now manually processes some 300,000 motor voter applications a year, at least $270,000 annually. Further savings are anticipated at county boards of elections once the system is fully automated.
